How to block Pinterest, without losing your boards

Pinterest doesn't feel like a problem app. It's recipes, room ideas and wedding boards. That's why it slips under the radar: an endless wall of pictures, each one leading to ten more.

It's big. Pinterest reported 640 million monthly active users worldwide in its second quarter of 2026.¹ In the US, Pew found women are far more likely to use it than men, 50% against 19%.²

For anyone trying to lower their gaze, an image feed matters more than its reputation suggests. Fashion and beauty pins sit right next to the recipes.

What Pinterest gives you built in

We couldn't find a daily time limit or a take-a-break setting in Pinterest. Its teen safety page mentions only a school-hours reminder that some teens may see: "if you open the Pinterest app during the school day, you may see a reminder to put down your phone."³

For parents, Pinterest lets you "set up a passcode to lock certain settings related to account management, privacy and data, and social permissions," and profiles for ages 13 to 15 are private by default.³ That helps with privacy. It doesn't limit time.

Should you block Pinterest or schedule it?

If you use Pinterest to plan something real, like a room or a week of meals, don't block it all day. Give it one short window in the evening and lock it the rest of the time.

If you open it with no reason in mind, block it fully. Your boards stay where they are for the day you actually need them.

The loopholes that break most Pinterest blocks

pinterest.com in the browser. Pins open in any browser, and search results often lead back to them. Block the website along with the app.

Saving it for later. A pin saved to look at later is a reason to come back. Planning boards turn into browsing sessions.

The other image feeds. If Pinterest closes and the scroll moves to Instagram, block Instagram as well.

How to block Pinterest on iPhone and Android

2. Create a block and choose when it runs. All day, set hours like evenings or bedtime until Fajr, or each prayer time. If Pinterest is useful for planning, open it in one short window and lock the rest of the day.
3. Add Pinterest, and add pinterest.com to your website list. That closes the app and the site together, so the browser doesn't become the back door. Block any extra browsers you don't need while you're there.
4. Give the code to someone you trust. Let them set the code that protects your blocks. Without it, blocks can't be removed or switched off and Sunnah Lock can't be deleted, so a weak moment has nowhere to go.

Without installing anything

On iPhone, Screen Time can set an App Limit for Pinterest. When you reach it, "you can tap One More Minute or send a request for more time."⁴ It helps most when someone else sets the Screen Time passcode.

On Android, go to Settings, Digital Wellbeing, App timers and set a timer on Pinterest. When time runs out, "the app closes and its icon dims."⁵ You can change the timer in a couple of taps, and neither tool closes the website in your browser.
