What Sunnah Lock does

Sunnah Lock helps you guard your time and lower your gaze by blocking distracting apps, websites, and whole categories on your own iPhone. It is built on Apple's Screen Time framework, so the blocking is enforced by iOS itself, not by a workaround.

• Blocks — pick apps, categories, or websites and shield them manually, on a schedule, or after a daily time limit.
• Prayer-time blocking — distractions shield automatically across each of the five daily prayer windows, calculated on your device.
• Location blocks — blocks that switch on at a place you choose, like campus or the masjid.
• Block Haram Content — Apple's adult-content filter plus your own website list, on all day.
• Lockdown — a stronger commitment for a set period.
• Insights — Apple's own usage report, alongside Sunnah Lock's record of how often a shield turned you away.
• Adhkar reminders and a dhikr counter — every entry carries an authentic source.

Getting started

1. Install Sunnah Lock and open it.
2. Work through onboarding and sign in — with your email, Google, or Apple. If you already have a Sunnah Lock account from Android, use the same sign-in method so it matches.
3. Grant Screen Time permission when asked. Nothing can be blocked without it.
4. Create your first block: name it, pick what it covers, choose when it applies.

Common issues

Blocking is not working

Almost always one of these:

• Screen Time permission was turned off. Check iOS Settings → Screen Time, and confirm Sunnah Lock still has access. Sunnah Lock cannot block anything without it.
• The block is switched off. Open the Blocks tab and check the toggle.
• The block's window has not started. A scheduled block only applies inside its time window. A daily-limit block only applies once the limit is used up.
• You are not at the place. A location block only applies inside the region you set.

My location block never turns on by itself

Background geofencing needs Always location permission. If you only granted "While Using the App", the block saves but will not switch on when the app is closed. Change it in iOS Settings → Sunnah Lock → Location → Always.

Also check the place and radius on the block — a very small radius near a building can miss.

Prayer times look wrong

• Set your location in the prayer settings so times are calculated for where you actually are.
• Choose the calculation method your local masjid follows — methods differ by several minutes, and there is no universally correct one.
• Check your madhab setting, which changes Asr.

I am not getting notifications

Check iOS Settings → Sunnah Lock → Notifications is on, then check the individual toggles in Settings → Notifications inside the app (morning adhkar, evening adhkar, dhikr streak reminder).

I want to make Lockdown harder to undo

iOS can require a Screen Time passcode before Screen Time access can be changed. Ask someone you trust to set that passcode and keep it — then a weak moment cannot quietly undo your setup. Set it up in iOS Settings → Screen Time.

I signed in but my data from Android is not here

Use the same sign-in method on both. If you signed up on Android with Google, sign in with Google on iPhone too — signing in with email creates a separate account.

I cannot sign out

Sign-out is deliberately blocked while a Lockdown is active. Wait for the Lockdown to end.

Your data

Exporting your data

Settings → Data → Export my data produces a file with Sunnah Lock's own records: your blocks, dhikr days, statistics, prayer settings, and theme.

Apple's Screen Time usage numbers are not in it. That is Apple's rule, not a choice we made — those figures are never readable by our code.

Deleting your account

Settings → Account → Delete Account, then confirm.

This permanently deletes your account and the data we hold for it: your status record, your synced dhikr counts, your user record on our servers, and the sign-in account itself. It cannot be undone.

If it has been a while since you signed in, iOS may ask you to sign in again first. That is a security requirement — sign in and try again.

Deleting your account does not remove data stored on your phone. Delete the app for that; iOS removes its storage along with it.

Privacy

The short version: we never learn which apps you block — Apple's Screen Time system does not tell us — and your location never reaches our servers. There is no analytics SDK and no tracking of any kind in this app.

What Sunnah Lock does

Sunnah Lock for Android blocks distracting apps, websites, and search keywords on your own phone. Android has no system-level equivalent of Screen Time, so the blocking is enforced by Sunnah Lock's own Accessibility Service. That is why the Android app asks for permissions the iPhone app never needs — the full list, and the reason for each one, is on our permissions page and our accessibility service page.

• Blocks — pick apps, websites, or keywords and block them manually, on a schedule, after a daily time limit, or after a number of opens.
• Prayer-time blocking — distractions block automatically across each of the five daily prayer windows.
• Location blocks — blocks that switch on at a place you choose, like campus or the masjid.
• Website and keyword blocklists — block a site outright, or block searches containing words you choose.
• Strict Mode — a stronger commitment that makes your setup much harder to undo.
• PIN — optional, required before anything can be unlocked or changed.
• Family link — optional. Pair a child's phone with a six-digit code and manage its protections from yours.
• Insights — your usage patterns alongside Sunnah Lock's record of how often a block stepped in.
• Adhkar reminders, a dhikr counter, and Muhasabah — every entry carries an authentic source.

Getting started

1. Install Sunnah Lock from Google Play and open it.
2. Sign in — with your email or Google. If you already have a Sunnah Lock account from an iPhone, use the same sign-in method so it matches.
3. Run Device Setup when prompted. It walks you through Accessibility, display over other apps, and device administrator. Nothing can be blocked without the first two.
4. Create your first block: name it, pick what it covers, choose when it applies.

Common issues

Blocking is not working

Start with Profile → Why aren't my blocks working? in the app — it checks the usual causes for you. If you would rather check by hand:

• The Accessibility Service was turned off. This is by far the most common cause. Turn it back on in Android Settings → Accessibility → Sunnah Lock, or re-run Profile → Run Device Setup.
• Battery optimisation shut the service down. Set Android Settings → Apps → Sunnah Lock → Battery → Unrestricted. Aggressive power saving — common on Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo and Huawei phones — kills background services, and blocking then stops without warning.
• "Display over other apps" is off. Sunnah Lock can still detect the blocked app, but it cannot draw the block screen over it.
• The block is switched off, or its window has not started. A scheduled block only applies inside its time window. A daily-limit block only applies once the limit is used up.
• You are not at the place. A location block only applies inside the region you set.

There is also a Profile → Troubleshooting screen that diagnoses blocking issues directly on your device.

The app is blocked but no block screen appears

That is the "display over other apps" permission. Grant it in Android Settings → Apps → Special app access → Display over other apps → Sunnah Lock, or re-run Device Setup from your Profile.

My daily time limits are wrong, or stuck at zero

Daily limits are calculated from Android's own usage figures, which need their own permission. Grant it in Android Settings → Apps → Special app access → Usage access → Sunnah Lock.

My location block never turns on by itself

Background geofencing needs location set to Allow all the time. If it is on "Allow only while using the app", the block saves but will not switch on when the app is closed. Change it in Android Settings → Apps → Sunnah Lock → Permissions → Location.

Also check the place and radius on the block — a very small radius near a building can miss.

I cannot uninstall Sunnah Lock

That is deliberate. Sunnah Lock registers as a device administrator so it cannot be removed in a weak moment. Turn that off first — in the app, or in Android Settings → Security → Device admin apps — and the uninstall will go through. Strict Mode can hold this in place until it ends.

I signed in but my data from my iPhone is not here

Use the same sign-in method on both. If you signed up on iPhone with Google, sign in with Google on Android too — signing in with email creates a separate account.

The family pairing code does not work

A pairing code is six digits, expires after ten minutes, and works only once. Generate a fresh one on the parent phone and type it into the child's phone straight away.

Your data

What stays on your phone

Your block configurations, your block event logs, and the screen-time figures shown on Insights are stored only on your device and are never sent to us. If you set a PIN, only a one-way hash of it is stored — your actual PIN is never saved in readable form. On-device data is encrypted.

Uninstalling the app removes all of it.

Usage statistics

The Android app sends anonymous usage statistics through Firebase Analytics — which screens are opened, whether setup was finished, when a block is created. Never what you block. You can turn it off in Profile → Support, which also deletes the usage statistics for that install immediately.

Deleting your account

The Android app does not yet have a delete button inside the app. Email admin@sunnahlock.com from the address you signed up with, and we will delete your account and all associated cloud data — your Firebase account record, any family-link device records, and your usage statistics — within 30 days.

Deleting your account does not remove data stored on your phone. Uninstall the app for that; Android removes its storage along with it.

Privacy

The short version: your blocks, your logs and your screen-time figures stay on your device. We hold your sign-in account, anonymous usage statistics you can switch off, and — only if you use it — your family-link records. We never sell your data.
